The New Vic Project brings to life McGill University’s innovative vision to create a new complex for teaching and research on the site of the former Royal Victoria Hospital in downtown Montréal. This project spans 50,000 sq. m. and is the most ambitious endeavour in the university’s 200-year history. It involves the restoration and redevelopment of buildings that date back to the former hospital’s founding in 1893.

PRIMARY CHALLENGES
- Heritage restoration
- Two related projects, one of which involved autonomizing the infrastructure services in the other off-project pavilions on the site. The other project required relocating the MUHC users who were still present
- Project in a dense urban setting with very little access and close to a large public park and hospital, sports, academic and residential facilities in downtown Montréal
- This involved the deconstruction of existing buildings with a view to recovering and reusing materials
